The Secret to Finally Embracing your Single Season
There’s nothing worse than yearning for something that just won’t seem to come to fruition.
I know because all I’ve wanted my whole life was to be a wife and a mom. As a high schooler I thought I FOR SURE would marry the boy I dated all four years of high school and when we broke up in college I was SURE I had missed my chance at the future I had always dreamed of.
As you can imagine, living in a state of believing you’ve missed out on your life’s calling did not make for many joyful days or general happiness in my college years.
If you’re in a similar state I want to share with you how embracing my single season instead of fighting it tooth and nail brought me more joy, fulfillment, and peace than I could ever imagine!
Here’s what helped:
Realizing seasons change
Accepting that God is not against me
Seeing everything as a gift.
If you’d like to stop hating the season of life you’re in and start actually LOVING it keep reading:
Seasons Change
I used to feel stuck as a single person. It seemed like my single season was never going to end! Did that mean that I would be single forever and miss out on everything I had ever dreamed of?
What a scary thought place to be stuck in. Until I started embracing the idea that my life was not one sad story but a series of seasons that would come and go.
God never changes and he always stays the same. We are not God. Our lives will change in small ways and in big ways.
Being single is a SEASON. Stop thinking you are an unchanging God. You are a humble human experiencing a season of life!
Don’t you feel a little freer already?
God is not against me:
“Ok” I would reason with myself, “so maybe this sucky season sin;t going to last forevre but how do I know that the next season won’t suck even more? ANd that the next season after that will be even worse?”
“Because that’s not how the God I serve works” I would answer back to myself.
Romans 8:31 says
“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
God is FOR us. He wants GOOD things for us because he is goodness itself. It was easier to see my season of life as less of a threat when I accepted that God was always working for my good.
Everything is a Gift
James 1:17 tells us
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
So, we’ve established we are in a temporary period, that God is using for our GOOD, and which therefore can be used as a GIFT!
See the logic? You aren;t in your single period for any old reason! What gifts might JEsus have waiting for you in this time?
What friendships will you pour into? What skills can you devote yourself to learning? What experiences will shape you? What places will you see?
Now, as a wife and a mom, I look back on the years without my family as a formative time that set me up to be the wife and mom I am now and I am so grateful for it.
